Great News! Senate Resolution 66, which designates Febrauary 12, the date of the birth of Charles Darwin in 1909, as “Darwin Day” was introduced on Wednesday. This honor is overdue. Darwin had more impact than any other scientist except perhaps Einstein. No one is more deserving of a holiday. It is time  that we recognize scientists the way we recognize politicians and one explorer (Columbus). Science is, after all, the truest form of exploration.

S Res 66 also recognizes “the importance of science to the betterment of humanity”, according to congress.gov. Bravo! It is about time that science received more respect in this era of anti-intellectualism.
