Hispanic Heritage Month

We are now in the midst of Hispanic Heritage Month. This commemoration is unusual in that that it does not stretch from the beginning of a month to the end. It actually started on September 15 and ends on October 15.

Hispanic Heritage Month is very important. It celebrates a people who are a vital part of this country, who are members of one of the fastest growing groups in it, and about whom too little is taught or discussed.  Therefore we must take the opportunity to learn about these people and give them the recognition they deserve. This is a crucial step toward making ours a truly multiracial country where recognition that it belongs to everyone is universal.

Today was African-American Day. This is an important holiday that should be observed more than it has. Here are some pictures from the African-American Day parade in Harlem from the blog “Harlem Gal.”
