Today’s (8/16) Polls

This is the sixth day of the Paul Ryan candidacy. He is still running from his record. Democrats are still attacking it. Meanwhile, in a move reminiscent of the treatment of John Kerry in 2004, the Republicans are beginning to Swift Boat Presidnt Obama in regard to the killing of Osama Bin Laden. Noting a distinct sensation of Deja Vou, here are today’s presidential tracking polls:

  • Race

Rasmussen:  Romney 45%, Obama 44%, some other candidate 4% (likely voters)(3-day)

Gallup         :  Romney 47%, Obama 45% (registered voters)(7-day)

  • Presidential Approval

Rasmussen:  Approve 48%, Disapprove 51% (likely voters)(3-day)

Gallup         :  Approve 44%, Disapprove 50% (registered voters)(3-day)

Now most of the difference in the two polls is in the approve  column, so the soft responders are leaning toward the approval of the president and perhaps turnout has become even more favorable toward him. Meanwhile, the race has not changed.

Today’s (8/15) Polls

This is the fifth day of the Ryan candidacy. The Tea Party revolt against the Republican leadership continued last night: arch-conservative twelve-term Florida District 3  U.S. Representative (ours, unfortunately) Cliff Stearns trails veterinarian Ted Yoho by 829 votes, enough to void a recount, pending certification, and has conceded!  The ultra-conservative hotelier Stearns was actually not conservative enough for Republicans in his district! Bizaarre! In disbelief, here are today’s presidential tracking polls:

  • Race

Rasmussen:  Romney 47%, Obama 43%, some other candidate 4% (likely voters)(3-day)

Gallup         :  Romney 47%, Obama 45% (registered voters)(7-day)

  • Presidential Approval

Rasmussen: Approve 47%, Disapprove 52% (likely voters)(3-day)

Gallup         : Approve 45%, Disapprove 49% (registered voters)(3-day)

The presidential race is still very static. The ultra-conservative Yoho, by, the way, will face Democrat J.R. Gaillot for the District 3 seat. After  twenty-four years and much gerrymandering in his favor, Gainesville and Alachua County are finally free from Stearns. The question is, are we free of  Republican control of District 3? Let us hope so.
